About James
James Henry Bragg was born in Coventry, England, which is in the county of Warwickshire. After school, he served an apprenticeship as a fitter and turner, at Armstrong Whitworth Aviation, just outside of Coventry. AWA, as it was known, built and designed many world war two aircraft, the most famous being the Avro Lancaster. This was a four-engine heavy bomber, most famous for the Dam buster raid carried out on the day that James was born.
When the factory closed, because of the British Labour government’s decision to purchase C-130’s, and scraped the Argosy project. James emigrated to South Africa. He started work as a fitter at a factory in Port Elizabeth, but was not happy. He joined Ingersoll Rand, the compressed air company, where they trained him to become a sales representative. After many years at the company, he left and set up his own business.
He married Lucille and they have two boys, they left South Africa after a serious incident and moved to England. They set up a boating business, but it was not a success and after five years, they moved to France. James worked for a Scotsman, who trained him to build and maintain golf courses. James liked this work. In 1994, he was offered a position to build and maintain the first 9 hole golf course on the island of Crete. He stayed there for eight years and enjoyed the life; he feels Greek mezze is fantastic food.
